DaVonya Holmes: A rising Voice in Contemporary Gospel Music
With extraordinary grace and perseverance, DaVonya Holmes emerges as a powerful new voice in contemporary gospel music, using her ministry through song to inspire and transform lives. Her musical roots run deep, coming from a family endowed with remarkable talent. DaVonya’s mother, Vanessa Holmes, is a celebrated vocalist with a five-octave range, while her father, Roosevelt Purifoy (also known as Mad Hatter), is a professional musician and was inducted into the blues hall of fame. Her grandmother, Jacqueline Thomas, served as a gospel director at St. Luke Church for many years, further contributing to the family’s rich legacy in gospel music.
A gifted writer and vocalist, DaVonya honed her craft under the guidance of her musically accomplished parents and through collaborations with other industry professionals. Her musical journey began in high school when she worked as an artist and producer with Teen Patrol Records, under the guidance of Lillian Commons. She later partnered with renowned producer Dwayne Armstrong of Strong Arm Productions and Dashawn Ragland of Digital Mind Productions. Her talent and versatility were also showcased as a member of the V. Holmes "Tribute to the Motown Greats" show, where she portrayed an icon of the Motown era.
In addition to her musical career, DaVonya is married to Alvin and is a mother of of five artistic children, balancing her family life with her completion of an associates degree in psychology at Regents University. She is now pursuing music and psychology at Chicago State University. A seasoned fashionista, she has been in the cosmetology industry for over 20 years, bringing her creativity and style into every aspect of her life and work.
Having dedicated her life and gifts to Jesus, DaVonya has made it her mission to use her voice to uplift the Kingdom of God and those in need of spiritual and emotional healing. She has served as a background vocalist for Pastor Fredrick Wilson (F.E.W.) of Temple of Glory, Melodies of Praise, and No Limit Worshipers, and she has toured with Dr. Willie Wilson’s Singsation.
Her debut album, Forever Grateful, released under independent label Nusource Productions, is available on iTunes and Nimbit Music. Her first music video, Psalm 51, directed by Michael Lyles, can be viewed on YouTube. DaVonya has also led worship at significant gatherings, including Crusaders Church, where Apostle John Eckhardt is overseer. Currently, she serves on the worship team at Disciple Church in Tinley Park, Illinois, under the leadership of Pastors Jerry and Chris McQuay, Brent Sol-McQuay.
As she continues to write new music, DaVonya remains steadfast in her commitment to creating songs that bring encouragement, healing, deliverance, restoration, and reconciliation to all who hear them. Her artistry, rooted in faith and excellence, is poised to leave an indelible mark on the world of gospel music.
